One down,

... and one to go!

So here's pictures of the finished sleeve:

I'm really tired and may have to take tomorrow off to do other stuff (my eyes are not used to the close work and the new glasses both) like finish the gown I started for myself, maybe get the gown portion of Gunthar's outfit cut out. I still have to write a brief ceremony for Gemma and I and decide if I want to haul out the oath-spear.

In other news, Wanda is home from her trip, and we got the truck back from the shop. Many $$$- clutch had to be rebuilt and it was far enough gone they had to do more than usual to it. Zippy needs to go for an oil change and a good look-over. I'd like to have the brakes checked before I head into the mountains. And I am getting really antsy to go, too. I haven't seen James since Spring Break. I really hope that the gas prices stabilize a bit and maybe go down a little. Diesel around town is $4.39-4.43. Almost beyond imagination. Seems like it wasn't so long since they were under $2.

Lydia has internet at home now! Yay Lydia!

I want the primaries to be over. Sick of it all. Just saying', yanno? John Edwards is out, so anyone is second choice for me. But we've got to stop going the Republicans' job for them- no more of this circular firing squad.

I'm off to bed, likely to dream of putting pearls on sleeves...

Nice sleeve!

However, it is hard to sympathize with friends in the US when they complain about fuel prices. I've been paying well more than that since I moved to Australia three years ago.

Well, I'm on a very teeny, fixed income, and James is 300 miles away. It is, and Annie would say, teh suck.

That is absolutely gorgeous! Can't wait to see the finished product. Yeah, gas prices suck. It's truly limited our eventing and since we live at in the bottom of Meridies away from the huge metropolitan areas that have an event going on at least every other weekend within a 2 hour drive we just haven't been going much of anywhere. We have Crown List in 1 week (we are hosting, so I think I'm going) then KA&S isn't that far away in June. Then a local Middle Eastern Event in July and possibly just me carpooling with "the ladies" to Uni. With five people to take to events, even with the kingdom family rule, events are a minimum of $200, and most of that is gas. I remember the good old days when you could fill your tank for $12, go to an event for $8 (including feast) and have a dandy time all weekend for under $30. Or am I telling my age here? :)

Age, definitely Mel. Hell, I remember when it took a quarter to fill my friend's motorcycle....(grin)
I'm going down to our kingdom A&S next weekend--just a measely 9 hours or so (I'm in Artemisia...we're used to the distances, but the increased costs are biting badly). It is taking a *huge* chunk out of my limited budget. I feel badly, sometimes, not being able to travel as much as I'd like (or should, being 1 of only 5 laurels in the entire state of Montana).
Lainie, the sleeves are absolutely lovely. I'm not sure if I should be more envious of Gunther, or his lady, lol!, but I wanna know one thing....
Where the heck were you (and your clothing skills) when I got my laurel? Damn, but it would have been *sweet* to be elevated in something that nice!

Hmm... if I remember right, you got your Laurel right around the time that I was busy with small children and diapers. :-P I was making clothes for the kids, but certainly nothing that fancy!

Yeah, well, a girl can dream of a nice dress, can't she?

Liutgard said...

Well Maire, someday you should make something fancy like that, just for the halibut! Heck, someday _I_ should do... hmm.

Yup, I probably should, but I've shifted period-emphasis so much recently, that it's driving me crazy, sartorily. Plus, I've been losing a lot of weight, and I'd really rather hold off on making anything too fancy for a while.
I'd always sorta thought/hoped that, since I was a late period laurel, that if I ever got my Pelican, I'd get enough warning to be able to do an awesoe dress (was planning on a reproduction of the Pelican Portrait, actually), but that didn't come to pass...they did a drive-by and got me in the grubbiest of "been busy all day and looking like crap" clothes. *sigh*
My last big excuse for a fancy outfit, down the tubes....
If I ever get the Eternal Italian Camicia done, I'm going to enter it in Kingdom A&S as part of a late-16th century Venetian outfit, but that's a ways off.
Hmmm....
Maybe we could challenge each other? Since our actual 1408 timeline is more about fit and fabric, than doo-dads, what about something, mmmm, 12th century? Bliauts at 50 paces?

Well, the "in the midst of weight loss" is my number one reason for not making new garb as well. I have two lovely pieces of linen (one bright royal blue the other navy with embroidered daisies) that I want to make into cotes, but I'll be snogwoggled if I make a fitted cote that isn't going to fit me in August! So I'm running around in slightly (ever so slightly) increasingly baggy Norse aprons (it's hard to say greatly increasingly aprons when you are making cheese, bread and trying out all the recipes for your next feast - sigh). I did make a new pair of braies yesterday so there is one less pair of yoga pants to pack this weekend. And fortunately braies are supposed to be baggy. Oh, I did make a set of Middle Eastern garb, but again that is sort of "One size fits most" considering that my selwar and my tall skinny friend Greet's selwar are cut from the same pattern.
