I've been thi...Yep, that sounds about right :)

I've been thinking a lot lately about how to encourage people who have no interest in competition to still pursue this type of research. (And more generally, on the role of competition within the SCA, and whether A&S competitions actually do more harm than good to the general cause of advancing research and the pursuit of doing things historically, but that's a discussion we should totally have in person!)

I think those of us who enjoy doing research both for competitions and not need to find a more effective way to communicate that:
1) Anyone can do research (corollary: research is/can be free)
2) Not wanting to enter a competition is no reason not to do research, and competitions aren't the only venue for great A&S projects

What are your thoughts on this? More A&S displays at events? More classes? Research enthusiasts talking about the joys of research outside of a competition context? Panel discussions?

This is part of my broader goal of encouraging more people to take small steps toward authenticity. I think if we could get people on board with the idea that research is a part of this game, we'd improve this game.

-Eulalia
Factorialhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15402480441296813530noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4769913798235664780.post-70584872420862256392013-09-08T19:29:03.632-07:002013-09-08T19:29:03.632-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.travel insurance balihttp://www.trueinsurance.com.au/travel-insurance/noreply@blogger.com
